The origins of the RM 17-01 can be traced back to the original RM 017, one of the brand's few unconventional watches. Unconventional in terms of Richard Mille design language, with a different aesthetic than what we are used to seeing from the brand, which is the iconic tonneau shaped curved case with five-spline screws. The RM017 is an older generation Richard Mille with an extra flat, rectangular case and a conical crown that protrudes a little too far from the case, housing a skeletonized, hand-wound tourbillon movement. The ultra-thin flat profile was first seen on the RM016.
